Red Eléctrica del Sur
Red Eléctrica del Sur (REDESUR) is the concession company that provides electrical transmission service to the southern part of the country, in the regions of Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna and Puno. The Ministry of Energy and Mines granted the concession in 1999 for a period of 30 years. In addition to managing the electrical transmission business, in 2005, REDESUR was ganged the concession to manage the telecommunications network in the regions where the company operates. This makes REDESUR the first electricity operator in Peru to access the telecommunications market through the commercial operation of the surplus fibre optic cable installed in the transmission networks.
The REDESUR transmission system, designed for 220 kV, 138 kV and 66 kV, passes through the regions of Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna and Puno, from the coast to the mountains, though zones with different climates and altitudes, reaching a maximum elevation of 4,677 m.s.l. This transmission system is connected to the National Interconnected System (SINAC) at 220 kV at the Socabaya substation; at 138 kV at the Puno substation, and at 66 kV at the Los Héroes substation, allowing interconnection to the SINAC by the transmission systems of ENERSUR at 220 kV at the Moquegua substation, EGESUR and ELECTROSUR (on 31 May 2009, the new line went into service and a 66 kV cell was transferred from EGESUR to ELECTROSUR) at 66 kV at the Los Héroes substation and REP at 138 kV at the Puno substation.
